Stories that Sam Baldock was going to sign for Ipswich on Friday proved to be unfounded, though Baldock’s immediate future has still to be resolved.

Equally inaccurate were the tales that Doncaster skipper, George Friend, was on the verge of signing for the Addicks. Friend has joined Middlesbrough.

There are reports that Chris Powell wants to sign Bristol City’s defensive midfield shield, Kalifa Cisse. Reading brought the Orleans born Mali international to England in May 2007 and had to pay Boavista £600,000 for his services.

Cisse has made 94 league starts for Reading and Bristol City as well as a further 42 appearances from the bench, scoring 9 goals.

Cisse was on trial at Bolton last week but Powell is apparently keen to bring him to The Valley.
